Houghton Mill
Houghton Mill is a National Trust treasure in the delightful village of Houghton, either a 2-mile walk from Hemingford Grey or a 5-minute drive and a short walk!
Houghton Mill is open for guided tours and a self-led experience. You’ll need to pre-book your tickets for the guided tours only. No booking is required for the self-led experience which runs every Sunday.
And if you’re looking for a great pub lunch near Houghton Mill, it’s a short trip to The Cock.
The Manor House was made famous by long-term resident, Lucy M. Boston who rechristened it as ‘Green Knowe’ and wrote several books set there.
It is one of the oldest inhabited houses in Britain and a rare example of a 12th century, two-storey, moated Norman house.
The gardens are wonderful and like us they welcome well-behaved dogs in their gardens. We welcome them in the pub too (but not the restaurant) and even have a special doggie menu!
The Cock is just 200 metres away from the Manor House so if you’re looking for a a pub nearby to enjoy after your visit we’d love to have you.

Walks and Boating
We have lovely walks around us and of course, we are the place to eat and drink prior or post! The best known is the St Ives and the Hemingfords walk a gentle five mile stroll — which comes right past our door!
The Cock is 200 metres from the river and there are several other gentle walks alongside the River Ouse.
Or why not hire a boat from St.Ives Electric River Boat Co, cruise down the river and moor up just metres from The Cock. You could visit the Manor House at the same time. Easy and delightful!
Hinchingbrooke Hospital
We are only 13 minutes drive from the hospital. If you are visiting loved ones or are undergoing treatment, Hemingford Grey is a wonderful place to get away from it all.
We’re open for lunch every day or into the evenings for dinner with on-site parking available too.
